Use ChatGPT Work to Turn a Launch Memo into a Reviewable Slide Outline
Cihan's view: Use ChatGPT Work with an approved launch memo, a clear slide brief, and a human review pass to create a reviewable presentation outline.
You have a launch memo, a meeting tomorrow, and no useful slide structure yet. ChatGPT Work can help turn the memo into a reviewable outline. The output is a draft, not a finished deck you can send without checking.
This guide uses a fictional launch memo and follows OpenAI documentation for ChatGPT Work. It is documentation-based, not a report of a personal test.
What you will make
You will create a six-slide outline with speaker notes, a source map, and an open-questions list. The outline covers a launch decision without inventing a launch date or claiming that an approval happened.
You need ChatGPT Work on the web or desktop app, access enabled for your account or workspace, and a text document or PDF that you are allowed to upload. Work access and file creation depend on your plan, workspace settings, file type, and surface. If Work is missing, use a normal ChatGPT chat to produce the outline as plain text.
Fictional input
Create a text file named northstar-launch-memo.txt with this content:
Northstar Analytics launch memo
Owner: Maya Chen
Audience: internal sales and customer success teams
Product: a dashboard that flags late customer renewals for review
Problem: account teams often notice renewal risk late in the quarter
Known material: pilot interviews mention earlier visibility as a possible benefit
Unknown: final launch date, approved pricing, pilot conversion rate, named customer logos
Proposed next step: review the enablement plan with sales leadership
Constraints: do not promise automated decisions; a human account owner reviews every alert
The missing facts are deliberate. They give you something useful to check after the draft is created.
Steps
1. Open Work and attach only the memo
Open ChatGPT Work on the web or in the desktop app. Start a new Work task and attach northstar-launch-memo.txt. Do not add private customer files to this practice task.
2. Give it the slide brief
Paste this prompt after attaching the file:
Create a reviewable six-slide presentation outline from the attached Northstar Analytics launch memo.
Audience: internal sales and customer success teams.
Goal: explain the customer problem, the proposed product, the operating boundary, and the next review step.
Required slides:
1. The problem and why teams should care
2. What the product is and is not
3. What the memo supports
4. What remains unknown
5. Enablement questions for sales and customer success
6. Proposed next review and decisions needed
For every slide, provide:
- slide title
- up to four bullets
- short speaker notes
- source line from the memo, or "memo does not specify"
Rules:
- Use only the attached memo.
- Do not invent a launch date, price, conversion rate, customer name, approval, or measured result.
- Keep the human review requirement visible.
- Label unknowns plainly.
- Draft an outline only. Do not claim that a presentation file was created.
- Before writing the outline, state the proposed slide order in one short paragraph.
3. Review the plan before the outline
Check the proposed order. If the tool puts a sales promise before the operating boundary, ask it to move the boundary earlier. Then ask it to produce the outline and keep the first response as your working draft.
4. Ask for a source map
Use this follow-up:
Add a source map below the outline.
For each factual bullet, quote the exact phrase from the memo that supports it.
For each unsupported detail, write "unsupported by memo" and remove the detail from the slide.
Keep the human account-owner review requirement on slide 2 or 3.
Do not add new facts.
The source map is the part worth keeping. It makes review faster than reading the deck and memo side by side.
5. Move the draft into your slide tool and check it
ChatGPT Work can create or edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and analyses, but availability depends on plan, workspace settings, file type, and surface. If your surface supports the file type, name the output and the parts that must stay unchanged. Otherwise, copy the outline into your normal slide tool.
Before sharing, check:
- Does every claim appear in the memo?
- Are the final launch date and price still marked unknown?
- Is the human review boundary visible before benefit language?
- Does each slide have one clear job?
- Are speaker notes different from invented evidence?
- Could a reader mistake a proposed next step for an approved decision?
Expected artifact
A good illustrative result has six slides, notes under each slide, and a source map. It does not contain a launch date, pricing, customer logo, conversion percentage, or completed approval. The example is editor-written and illustrative. It was not generated by a recorded model run.
If the output goes wrong
It invents a launch date or price. Ask for a claim audit using only the attached memo. Delete unsupported details from the slide, not only from the notes.
It makes the deck sound like an automated decision system. Put this sentence on the product slide: “The memo describes alerts for human review, not automated account decisions.” Verify that the notes say the same thing.
It creates too many slides. Return to the six required slide jobs. A launch meeting usually needs fewer decisions, not more decorative pages.
Work is unavailable. Use a regular ChatGPT conversation and request the same outline as plain text. Apply the same checks.
Limits and privacy
Use only material you are allowed to upload. OpenAI documentation notes that Work access and local file use vary by plan, workspace settings, and surface. Messages and task context may be stored in the cloud even when local files are used in the desktop app. Check workspace rules before uploading internal material.
For a consequential launch, a human owner still verifies claims, dates, approvals, and final slide edits. A neat outline is not evidence that the launch is ready.
Evidence label
Documentation-based guide. Capabilities and workflow boundaries come from OpenAI ChatGPT Work documentation. The memo, outline, and expected artifact are fictional and illustrative.
